How the OHFFSS Works?
The OHFFSS connects eligible public dental patients with registered private practices like ours. Here's how the process works from voucher issue to your appointment:
1. NSW Health issues your voucher
After triage by your Local Health District oral health service, NSW Health issues a dental voucher specifying the type of treatment authorised, what services are covered, the maximum claim value, and the expiry date. The voucher is yours to redeem with any registered OHFFSS provider.
2. Book your appointment with us
Once you receive your voucher, call our team on (02) 9068 1369 or book online. We'll confirm your details, explain what's covered under your specific voucher type, and schedule a time well before your expiry date.
3. Attend your visit
Bring your OHFFSS voucher, your concession card, your Medicare card, and one form of photo ID to your appointment. We process the voucher directly with NSW Health on your behalf, so you have no out-of-pocket cost up to your voucher's claim limit.
Who Is Eligible for the OHFFSS?
To qualify for subsidised dental care under OHFFSS, NSW Health requires adult patients to meet all four of the following criteria:
-
Residence - You must live within your Local Health District (for our area, that's the South Western Sydney LHD).
-
Medicare - You must be eligible for Medicare and hold a current Medicare card.
-
Age - You must be 18 years or older. (Children under 18 may instead be eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.)
-
Concession card - You must hold one of the following valid Australian Government concession cards:
-
Pensioner Concession Card
-
Health Care Card
-
Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
-
Important: holding only a NSW State Seniors Card does NOT qualify you for OHFFSS. You must also hold one of the three federal concession cards listed above.

What Dental Treatments Are Covered by OHFFSS?
Treatment coverage depends on your voucher type, with the public dental service authorising the specific items on your voucher before issue. The most commonly covered services include:
-
Emergency dental care — Treatment for urgent issues like severe pain, dental infection, abscesses, or broken teeth.
-
General dental care — Routine check-ups, scale and cleans, white fillings, and tooth extractions.
-
Dentures — Full and partial denture assessment, fabrication, fitting, relines, and repairs.
What's typically NOT covered: cosmetic treatments (whitening, veneers), dental implants, orthodontics, and most root canal therapy. If you need these, ask our team about payment plan options.
Types of OHFFSS Vouchers Issued by NSW Health
NSW Health issues three voucher types based on your clinical needs after triage by your Local Health District:
-
Episodic Care Voucher — For urgent treatment of a single immediate dental problem, such as severe toothache, infection, or trauma. Valid for 1 month from issue.
-
General Care Voucher — Covers a broader range of routine treatment after a comprehensive dental examination, typically including check-ups, cleans, fillings, and basic extractions. Valid for 3 months from issue.
-
Denture Voucher — Covers the full process for full or partial dentures, from assessment through fabrication, fitting, and follow-up adjustments. Valid for 3 months from issue.
What's the Maximum Covered by My OHFFSS Voucher?
Each OHFFSS voucher comes with a maximum amount that can be claimed for treatment. Here's a quick guide:
-
Urgent Care Voucher: $480.00 or as printed on voucher
-
General Care Voucher: $1060.00 or as printed on voucher
-
Denture Care Voucher: $1850.00 or as printed on voucher
Note: The exact value will be printed on your voucher. This amount may vary depending on your treatment needs and the policies of your Local Health District. In some cases, local health services can:
-
Adjust the voucher limits based on local guidelines
-
Approve additional treatment items not listed, depending on your case
